Amarillo College Adjunct Faculty - Music in Amarillo, Texas

This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are accepting applications for our Music Adjunct Faculty position who will be all-in on our mission and who will teach applied instrumental and vocal private lessons and/or other music courses. Teaching responsibilities include time spent in the classroom, studio, or laboratory and immediate preparation for respective courses; maintaining and improving competence in subjects being taught, preparing teaching materials and evaluating student work/performances.

This position is filled on an as needed basis, contingent upon institutional needs.

Requirements

EDUCATION

Required: Associate’s Degree or above

Preferred: Master’s Degree or above

EXPERIENCE

Required: Professional experience with demonstrated teaching competence for the subject and levels taught. (Professional experience includes composition, performance, conducting, audio mixing, etc., and is separate from teaching experience.)

Preferred: Professional experience with demonstrated teaching competence at the college level.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach Music course(s) utilizing appropriate and engaging instructional methods and techniques.

  • Create engaging lesson plans that promote student involvement and application of the material.

  • Submit college reports and forms in a timely manner.

  • Utilize a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines.

  • Meet with and advise students before/after class or by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods.

  • Evaluate students to measure their progress.

  • Attend meetings, trainings, and orientations as required.

  • Participate in course and curriculum development, revision and evaluation.

  • Design and implement assessments to measure student learning outcomes.

  • Maintain accurate and timely records of student attendance and academic performance.

  • Perform effective teaching activities, including classroom instruction, directing projects, and assisting with student coursework, research and internships.

  • Plan, develop and present organized classroom instructions and learning opportunities for students in accordance with approved course outlines.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and strong grasp of grammar are mandatory.

  • Ability to understand and apply learner-centered and high impact instructional methods.

  • Skilled in computer operation.

  • Ability to work under stress, independently and as a team member.

  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism at all times.

  • Ability to educate themselves regarding College policies.

  • Ability to maintain regular communication with students and provide constructive feedback to students.

  • Ability to demonstrate and maintain competence in the use of instructional technology.

  • Ability to demonstrate competence in his/her teaching field and related technologies.

  • Ability to ensure effective two-way communication at all levels of responsibility.

  • Ability to teach day and/or evening courses as required.

  • Ability to teach off-campus, dual credit, online, and tech supported courses as required.

  • Ability to maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.

Salary Adjunct: Amarillo College - Salary Schedules (actx.edu) (https://www.actx.edu/hr/salary-schedules) , please review the TEACHING OVERLOAD COMPENSATION and ADJUNCT FACULTY COMPENSATION chart to view the salary pay scale. This is based on your highest level of education.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.

Working Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.)

Work Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets) and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Colleague, and various other educational applications. Work may also be performed outside of the office and with little to no supervision.
