Job Description

The State of Iowa Department of Corrections Community Based Corrections 8th District in Ottumwa, Iowa, is seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to join our team as a Probation Parole Officer 2. Position Overview:

As a Probation/Parole Officer 2, you'll play a vital role in supervising clients through probation, parole, pretrial release, and work release. Your focus on moderate to high-risk clients involves evidence-based interventions to reduce violence, victimization, and overall recidivism.

Responsibilities:

• Supervise and monitor clients, addressing issues such as violating behaviors, community safety concerns, and critical matters using an evidence-based approach.

• Conduct thorough risk assessments (IRR and DRAOR) to identify client needs and responsivity, developing effective and intensive intervention strategies aimed at reducing recidivism.

• Maintain detailed and accurate case files for each client, ensuring timely and precise documentation in ICON, adhering to department policy and Iowa Code on record confidentiality.

• Complete Long, Pre-Plea, and Informal Pre-sentence Investigations for the courts.

• Prepare and present comprehensive written and oral reports on clients for courts, parole boards, administrative hearings, in-house staffings, and outside agencies, meeting established deadlines and compliance with Iowa Code, Administrative Code, and Department Policy.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in any field.

  • A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience in a human services or criminal justice field, where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.

  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes 18 months of full-time work as a Probation/Parole Officer 1.
