Job Description:
Landscape Maintenance - Oversees and performs landscape maintenance activities including mowing and edging of turf, non-turf weed control to include use of manual and chemical methods, shrub and ground cover trimming, mulch installation, leaf collection and planning and execution of minor improvements.
Personnel Management - Ensures the grounds personnel are properly trained and updated in proper landscape practices, safety, and regulatory issues. Provides an employee support system for improved production and efficiencies. Provides performance feedback to employees regarding performance and the results of campus inspections. Participates in employee recruitment interviews and selection of new hires.
Establishes and maintains direct personal contact with a wide spectrum of University community members affected and/or concerned with the quality, safety and appearance of the exterior Campus or other property. Consults with these customers with regard to concerns about maintenance frequencies, standards, appearance, etc.
Participates in the Department computerized work management system and utilizes pertinent management reports to schedule, evaluate and improve plant health, general landscape appearance and work performance.
Other related duties as required.
A criminal background and post-offer health assessment will be conducted.
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE:
Work hours 7:00 am - 3:30pm M - F.
Must possess a Florida Class E Operators License.
Employee must possess or obtain within (6) months of employment the Florida Certified Landscape Technician (FCLT) designation OR the Florida Certified Landscape Irrigation Service Technician (FCLIST) designation from the Florida Nursery Growers and Landscape Association (FNGLA)
Employee must possess or obtain within (6) months of employment the University of Florida/IFAS Extension GI-BMP Certification
Employee must possess or obtain within (6) months of employment the University of Florida/IFAS Extension Limited Use Lawn and Ornamental Pesticide License
Expected Salary:
Expected starting salary $22.00 - $24.00 hourly, based on experience.
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent and two years of relevant experience.
Employee must possess or obtain within (6) months of employment the FNGLA Certified Landscape Maintenance Technician designation (FCLMT)
Must possess a Florida Class E Operators License
Preferred Qualifications:
Five years of progressively more responsible landscape maintenance experience and demonstrated
ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse constituencies.
Florida Certified Landscape Technician (FCLT) designation.
Florida Department of Agriculture pesticide applicator certification or certification from another state.
Proficient computer skills, including Word, Excel, Outlook E-Mail.
Familiarity of Horticulture, Arboriculture, and Integrated Pest Management.
Experienced in a large Higher Education setting.
