You will be a Software Engineer II on the Azure PostgreSQL migration platform team. You will design, develop, test, and deploy features and enhancements that enable customers to migrate and optimize their PostgreSQL or Oracle databases on Azure.  You will mentor and coach junior engineers and contribute to the team culture and best practices.

  • Build and innovate: You will use your skills and experience in services, PostgreSQL, Oracle, Azure, and other technologies to build and improve the migration platform and related services. 

  • Collaborate: You will work closely with other engineers, product managers, and customers to deliver features and enhancements that meet their needs and expectations. 

  • Enhance customer experience: You will ensure that the migration platform is easy to use, robust, and secure, and that it provides customers with the best possible price/performance ratio.

Responsibilities

  • Lead discussions for the architecture and designs to enable migration solution that is highly secure, reliable and performant.

  • Lead by example within the team by producing extensible and maintainable code. Apply metrics to drive the quality and stability of code, as well as appropriate coding patterns and best practices.

  • Participate in code reviews to ensure coding standards are followed. Consider diagnosability, reliability, and maintainability when reviewing code, and understand when code is ready to be shared or delivered.

  • Identify needs for a broad versus selected approach in testing mechanisms and make informed decisions to implement the most effective tests. Drive efforts to add new tests, remove antiquated tests, and aggregate tests to improve the test suite.

  • Maintain operations of live service as issues arise on a rotational, on-call basis.

  • Work in a culture of continuous improvement, adaptation, reflection, and growth.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java

  • OR master’s degree in computer science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years of experience in developing and shipping system level features in an enterprise production backend server system.

  • Experience with internals of PostgreSQL or similar Enterprise Database Management system, including understanding of migration and replication technology.

  • Experience building Distributed Systems with reliable guarantees.

  • Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.

  • Solve problems by always leading with passion and empathy for customers.

  • Have a desire to work collaboratively, solve problems with groups, find win/win solutions and celebrate successes.

  • Enthusiasm, integrity, self-discipline, results-orientation in a fast-paced environment.

  • 2+ years of experience in developing and shipping system level features in an enterprise production backend server system.

  • 2+ years of experience building and supporting distributed cloud services with production grade.
