Summary:

Provides Environmental Heath and Safety (EHS) support to the team, Operations and Pharmaceutical Services Group (PSG).

As an EHS Technician, you’ll:

  • Maintain elementary neutralization wastewater treatment and potable water systems by conducting routine inspections, responding to alarms, monitoring systems, refilling neutralizing chemicals, and ordering supplies.

  • Maintain all applicable records for compliant operation of wastewater and potable water systems.

  • Conduct routine inspections for stormwater, UIC and SPCC (Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure) program.

  • Serve as an active member of emergency spill response team.

  • Partner and collaborate with the business and operations management.

  • Support functions and cross-functional teams to implement and administer environmental programs, procedures and practices.

  • Contribute sand and participate in company EHS program evaluations and EHS initiatives.

  • Collect samples from raw, semi-processed or processed industrial wastewater for analysis.

  • Inspect and maintain data collection system on wastewater treatment units.

  • Maintain data collection instrumentation.

  • Conduct site-wide chemical inventory.

  • Operate light/heavy equipment (e.g. pumps, vacuum equipment, oil spill equipment, folk lift, etc.).

  • Perform basic calculations and computer data entry.

  • Prepare and maintain necessary reports and records, as required.

  • Waste handling programs owner:

  • Non-hazardous, Hazardous, Biomedical, Controlled substance, TTB, FTZ wastes etc

  • Conducts equipment, facility, product reviews.

  • Coordinates pre-start health and safety review completion.

  • Participate in departamental Tiers.

  • Provides guidance, back-up and support to other EHS team members.

  • Actively participate in agencies, clients and corporate audits and audit readiness.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Technical degree in enviromental or equivalent experience in EHS area.

Experience:

Minimum 1+ years in an EHS role

Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, applicable to an industrial location.

Working knowledge of Federal and State Environmental regulations, particularly Waste Management, Air, Stormwater, WWTP, DOT compliance, among others.

Experience in chemical, manufacturing, or pharmaceutical environment.

Equivalency:

Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualification:

Potable and Wastewater Treatment Operator license (Category I).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Able to work in a fast-paced team environment. Previous experience emergency response, conducting inspections, forklift operation, waste handling and wastewater treatment plant operation. High integrity for dealing with confidential information. Demonstrated professionalism. Excellent interpersonal skills. Demonstrated computer proficiency with Microsoft Office programs. Proficiency with the English Language.

Comply with all Environmental Health & Safety Policies and Procedures. Work harmoniously with fellow team members, modelling positive team principles and partnering to meet project and departmental objectives. Carry out all duties within strict compliance to Patheon quality SOPs and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). Maintain workspace in a clean and orderly fashion.  Actively engage in and adhere to departmental systems to maintain a smooth and efficient workflow (visual management, scheduling systems, etc.). Be always client and patient conscious. Understand Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) and strive to improve the performance of the team by identifying areas for system improvements and engage in problem solving. Models positive thinking and is open to change, motivating the team to adapt to shifts in priorities and new ways of working. Proactively identify areas for improvement in the execution of procedures. Communicate risks to timelines of deliverables in a proactive manner.  Consistently strives to improve skills and knowledge in related field.  

Physical Requirements:

Medium to high physical effort and fatigue. Walks, sits or stands for limited periods. Require continously equipment operation including WWTP and Potable water systems. Lifts light items for limited duration. Ocasional work in outdoor areas. There may be regular exposure to mild physical discomfort from factors such as dust, fumes or odours, temperature extremes, loud noise, strong drafts, or bright lights. Use of Personal Protective equipment may be required and may include any of the following: safety glasses, safety shoes, lab coat, gloves, hair net, beard cover, safety apron, respirator on occasionally.
