Robert Half Fiber Technician in Richmond, Virginia

Description We are offering a contract to hire employment opportunity for a Cable Technician in Richmond, Virginia. In this role, you will be responsible for the assembly of fiber optic cables while ensuring their optimal functioning. Your tasks will include the breakout of fiber optic cables, measurement and cutting to length, epoxy preparation, labeling, and packaging of custom cable assemblies.

Responsibilities:

• Breakout of fiber optic cables as per the required standards

• Measure cables based on templates and cut them to the appropriate length

• Prepare epoxy for cable assembly

• Label fiber optic cables and reels accurately for easy identification

• Package custom cable assemblies ensuring their safe delivery

• Work effectively under tight deadlines and manage projects independently

• Solve problems resourcefully and exhibit strong organizational skills

• Communicate effectively with all levels of staff and collaborate as a team

• Exhibit keen attention to detail and excellent planning and measurement skills

• Gain basic knowledge of fiber processing, testing, and measurement.

• Digital Requirements • Proficient in broadband technology

• Knowledgeable in EO/IR systems

• Strong networking skills

• Familiar with Outside Plant (OSP)

• Experience with Patch Panel operations

• Proficiency in AB Testing

• Able to install cables efficiently

• Skilled in cabling techniques

• Knowledge and experience with Coax Cable

• Understanding of digital systems

• Previous experience as a Cable Technician is preferred

• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues effectively

• Strong communication and customer service skills

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Capable of following safety protocols and procedures

• Must be able to work in various weather conditions and physical environments

• Valid driver's license may be required

• Must be able to lift heavy equipment

• High school diploma or equivalent is required
