The Coca-Cola Company Lab Director, Capability & Quality Engagement in Shanghai, China

Lead a team of scientists and other professionals in all aspects of the laboratory operation, providing leadership, management and technical expertise. Act as influential subject matter expertise in related community in TCCC with valuable contribution. Allocates laboratory operations and workflow; liaises with other functional and operational area lead. Applicants should have demonstrated, technical knowledge paired with strong leadership skills, attention to detail, strong teamwork, excellent communication, strategic thinking and ability to innovate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements short-term and long-term Business Plans in line with the company and CCAS strategy.

  • Closely collaborate with key stakeholders such as Operating Units (OU), Bottling partners and other stakeholders, provides technical expertise and support on quality assurance and capability programs.

  • Follow-up new technologies/trends and investigate/share the best practices and their applications onsite; offers solutions to technical problems and provides guidance on quality & food safety matters.

  • Ensure efficient and effective implementation of quality management system to ensure compliance with ISO 17025, 17034 and 17043.

As people manager:

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the team on planning and implementing annual quality and capability programs such as RMP, PTP, bottling lab SME trainings.

  • Prioritize work of the team to achieve business goals through proactively liaise with other functional and operational areas, as well as properly review resources and urgency.

  • Identify resources, including but not limited to manpower, instruments, budget, among the team to ensure that work is completed accordingly.

  • Be responsible to develop subordinates' performance plan, development plan and career plan, identifying their talent, skill and required efforts; coach and mentor young talent through various dimensions, such as technical training, skill training, assignments, and identify succession plan.

As subject matter expertise (SME):

  • Recognized subject matter expert in one or more fields, evaluating data/information and making decisions, providing solutions to problems, and educated opinions on ingredients, syrups, beverages, concentrates or other substances to provide support to the Company and the food industry.

  • Bring forward creative, reliable & instructive suggestions and information on food safety, quality and related topics by exploring novel and advanced state-of-art technologies, new regulations / guidelines from government, new research from institutes.

  • Work closely and flexibly with stakeholders as a strategic partner to fully understand needs on analytical service & technical support by demonstrating skills, experiences and knowledge; moreover, provide enough influence to identify and reach alignments on working programs to those agreed services.

  • Act as consultant for the team on technical topics and providing instructions, support & knowledge sharing within the team and whole department.

  • Lead and build network among global CCAS labs / Analytical Network by sharing procedures, validation reports, experience and learning, to upgrade overall technical capability & level of analytical service group.

Qualification & Requirements

  • Master's degree of Chemistry, Food Science, Microbiology or related field is preferable.

  • At least 10 years of working experience in technical/laboratory operation, be familiar with quality management systems and applications (ISO 17025, 17034, 17043, GLPs).

  • Solid field specialty (e.g. Analytical Chemistry, Microbiology, Spectroscopy, Ingredients, Packaging, Sensory or others), and system knowledge is required.

  • Strong experience in collaborating and managing teamwork, including at least 5 years of managerial role and/or cross-functional leading role.

  • Advanced analytical, problem solving, facilitation and communication skills.

  • Multi-cultural experience will be a plus.

  • Fluent English & Chinese in written and oral.
