The Amazon Devices team designs and engineers high-profile consumer electronics, including the best-selling Kindle family of products. We have also produced groundbreaking devices like Fire tablets, Fire TV, and Amazon Echo. What will you help us create?

The Role:

We are looking for a passionate, hard-working and talented Software Development Manager for the Alexa Devices team who has experience building innovative, mission critical software features. You will have an enormous opportunity to make a large impact on the design, architecture, and development of consumer products. You will manage a team working on core Media/Music playback experiences on the Alexa devices.

· 7+ years of experience working directly with engineering teams

· Experience in partnering with product and program management teams

· 3+ years of people management experience, managing engineers

· Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science or a related technical discipline.

· 5+ years of in technical program management developing interactive consumer applications and/or - leading software development projects

· Experience coordinating cross functional and cross organizational teams in software development

· Experience in technical partner management

Key job responsibilities

-Ownership of projects that operate cross-functionally with multiple engineering, design and product teams

-Hire and develop top engineering talent

-Work in an Agile/Scrum environment to deliver high quality software against defined schedules and milestones

The Alexa Media group delivers delightfully unique media experiences. We are a passionate group of innovative, curious and media loving engineers who bring streaming audio to the Echo devices and Alexa Built-in devices. We make the best listening experience in HD, UHD and 3D possible for our customers be it music, podcasts, audibles and more.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $148,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
