Hudson Valley Community College Campus Peace Officer Trainee Full-Time HV-UPSEU-51424 in Troy, New York

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) located in scenic Upstate NY is a multi-campus College with locations in Troy and Malta New York. HVCC offers more than 80 degree and certificate programs in three schools: Business and Liberal Arts; Health Sciences; and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Campus Peace Officer

Full-Time HV-UPSEU-2224

In order to be considered an applicant for this position you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. HVCC does not support visa applications. Applicants must currently hold an unrestricted employment authorization to work in the United States and appointment will be contingent upon completion of a background check and physical.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have been legal residents of New York State for at least FOUR months immediately preceding the date of the test. Pursuant to subdivision 4a of Sec. 23 of the Civil Service Law, preference may be given to successful candidates who have been legal residents of the municipality to which the appointment is to be made for at least FOUR months preceding the date of the written test.

Please Note: The successful candidate must take the Campus Peace Officer exam (when offered), pass the exam, and be reachable on the Rensselaer County Civil Service eligible list for Campus Peace Officer to qualify for permanent employment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered for the Campus Peace Officer trainee position applicants must have (A) Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, police science or a closely related field and one year experience in a law enforcement agency or security force or (B) Related associates degree and 3 years’ experience in a law enforcement agency or security force or (C) High School diploma or equivalency and five years’ experience in a law enforcement agency or security force, or any equivalent combination of training and experience defined in A,B, and C above. Must have and maintain a NYS drivers license, must have or obtain prior to end of the training program a NYS Pistol permit.

To promote from trainee to Peace Officer must complete a NYS Campus public safety officer or basic course for police officer academy. Must complete a department training program that includes classroom, Field, and physical training, and meet the requirements of Rensselaer County civil service, including passing and being reachable on Campus Peace Officer exam.

DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES: The Campus Peace Officer Trainee performs work under the supervision of the Director of Public Safety or their designee with leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgement in carrying out details of the work.

Control and direct traffic on campus roadways and parking lots including but not limited to the use of physical barriers and signage.

Enforces the Laws of the State of New York

Maintain, document and store evidence including but not limited to video evidence.

Patrol the campus on foot or in patrol vehicle to protect people and property, maintain order and ensure compliance with college rules and regulations.

Investigate complaints received personally or as assigned by supervisor.

Investigate motor vehicle accidents on campus.

May summon local police, fire departments and ambulance services in cases of law violation, fire or other emergency.

Enforce traffic and parking regulations.

Enforce compliance with fire and safety regulations.

Respond to medical emergencies and provide assistance based on level of training.

Give information and directions to students and visitors.

Operate radio, telephone, video, computer and other dispatching equipment including but not limited to the ARMS software system.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Public Safety or another Supervisor

The hourly rate for the Campus Peace Officer Trainee is $22.78
