Rehabilitation Services Director Location: Victoria, TX Duration: Fulltime Shift Information: Salaried Position Description: Job summary: The Rehabilitation Services Director is responsible for the development, planning, management, and operation of the organization’s rehabilitation services programs, including physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and cardiac rehab. The functions of the Director include staffing, scheduling, budget development and monitoring, program development and evaluation, staff competency/evaluation, performance improvement, safety and risk management, and marketing as each is related to the services provided. Assumes the responsibility and authority for the ongoing operation of the rehabilitation programs. (EF) Develops, implements, and reviews program protocols, standing orders, policies, and procedures in accordance with the hospital’s mission, strategic plans, and other identified needs. (EF) Develops admission processes specific to the department, rehabilitation guidelines, staffing patterns, and record keeping routines. (EF) Responsible for hiring, orientating, training, performance managing, providing timely, constructive evaluation of staff, and making employment decisions. (EF) Develops and implements staff education programs and seminars to maintain current competency in rehabilitation care concepts. (EF) Along with staff input, selects, maintains, calibrates, and identifies equipment for replacement. (EF). Evaluates, develops, and implements new services. Prepares participant orientation, education, exercise, and counseling. Communicates regularly with patient’s primary physicians regarding progress, problems, and plan of care. (EF) Evaluates productivity assessments and develops department budget and marketing plans. (EF) Demonstrates knowledge of rehabilitation modalities, and observes, evaluates treatment effects, and provides recommendations for all rehabilitation services. (EF) Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients’ needs are met and hospital policies are followed. Ensures documentation meets current standards and policies for all rehabilitation services, i.e. ISO/NIAHO, DNV, Medicare, etc. (EF) Patient Care Services assigned members of the Stroke Team are responsible for attending quarterly meetings and to comply with 2 hours of Stroke education, annually. Communicates with peers and staff, and consults/collaborates with services intra and inter-departmentally to promote efficient and effective patient care and performance improvement within the hospital. Maintains professional growth and development through education, seminars, conferences, workshops, etc. Reviews applicable current literature for all rehabilitation service programs. Participates in hospital committees, hospital sponsored programs and activities, and civic community activities as requested. Hospital: Adheres to organization-wide and other applicable policies and procedures. Day-to-day performance complies with the hospital’s Service Excellence Behavioral Expectations. Performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital’s Ethics, Compliance and Confidentiality Program guidelines. Performs within professional Scope of Practice at all times. Educational: Requirements: Required: Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree in a rehabilitation professional area of study (i.e. Physical Therapy, Speech/Language, Occupational) from a program approved by State of Texas. Preferred: Physical Therapy degree Experience Required: 3 to 5 years’ experience as a staff rehabilitation professional (PT, OT, SLP) in an acute care clinical setting. 1 to 2 years’ experience in a leadership role or management position. Leadership role or management position should have included active and direct interaction. Preferred: Preferred experience in exposure to skilled nursing, home health, rehabilitation clinical settings and cardiac rehabilitation. Special skills and abilities: Required: Communication and relationship skills necessary to collaborate with physicians, providers, and hospital personnel. Ability to empower and develop staff to share in decision making processes. Strong computer skills, including spreadsheets, email, calendars, and internet applications in a windows environment with Microsoft Office Applications such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. Licensure / certification requirements: Required: Licensed as a rehabilitation services professional in the State of Texas (physical therapist, speech/language, occupational). BLS certification.
